#WeAreSTEM Campaign to Increase Girls Interest in STEM

0

Today the iBIO Institute’s EDUCATE center is launching the #WeAreSTEM campaign to increase girls’ interest in STEM and STEM- base careers.

The social media campaign appeals for community members to make the statement “I am for girls in STEM” by changing their profile picture or taking a picture and using the hashtag #WeAreSTEM. Resources for this campaign, including adding a sticker to your profile picture can be found at http://wearestem.net.

Pictures from the campaign will be used at EDUCATE’s Summer STEM Girls Camp, to showcase the community’s support for the campers exploration of STEM.

STEM Girls Camp

The EDUCATE Center is preparing for their second annual Summer STEM Girls Camp. STEM Girls Camp is a 5-day STEM Summer camp for 3rd-8th grade girls. The camp will be held on June 19-23rd at the Andrew Cooke Magnet School in Waukegan Illinois.

Programming includes cool hands-on activities, sessions with STEM professionals and a field trip. Campers explore a wide range of careers related to feeding, fueling, healing and saving the world! On the last day of camp, parents are invited to join their children at camp for a picnic and barbecue to share in and celebrate their week of STEM exploration!

The 2017 summer camps were made possible through the generous support of the Astellas USA Foundation and lead sponsor Abbott and Horizon Pharma.

Community members are encouraged to participate on Family Day, June 23rd. The day will showcase some of the activities from the week and provide companies with an opportunity to showcase STEM careers for the campers and their families. If you are interested in participating on family day, contact Monique Naleway, mnaleway@ibio.org.
